Thoughts on Color

I experience color less as a surface and more as a space; for me color and space are inseparable. Affecting multiple senses simultaneously; I can see, taste, smell, hear and feel color. I love juicy saturated color. Color is implanted in my memory through a multi-sensory awareness. I have a degree of synthesia and I use this in my painting. Color is immersive as it draws me into its space and conjures contradictory associations and emotions. Color triggers a physical reaction I can taste in the back of my throat that begins in the gut. The color in my new work is influenced by old school comics and cartoons, customized hippie vans from the 70’s, graffiti, food preparation tv, electronic ambient music, anatomy and science fiction. My explorations of color are omnivorous.
